Lucy’s Place: Trauma informed Care

Trauma or a psychological trauma refers to events such as a traumatic event or longer tabuse. It is any event that makes people feel in danger, powerless or trapped. Often people feel that they are the only ones going through this form of pain, but traumatic experiences are sadly very common in society. 1 in 5 people have experienced Physical or sexual abuse in their childhood and more than a quarter of women have experienced domestic abuse. A lot of the people I meet in therapy are survivors of a traumatic event and I recognise that this can often make it more difficult for you to trust others or come forward for help.

Lucy’s Place is a trauma informed service. and all our staff have had training on trauma informed practice. I have put a link to a short link below to help explain what I mean by trauma informed care. Some of the video on NHS education for Scotland may be distressing so please only watch if you feel it will be beneficial to you. Remember that Lucy’s place is a confidential and supportive place designed for you. If there is anything that you feel may make it easier for you to engage in therapy then please try to let us know.
